A Thing That Has to Happen

If you’ve been following this project since January you already know about the thing I’m about to discuss hits but since people have been getting on board as this thing has been rolling I periodically have to restate things so here goes:

I think Billy Joel and I should sit down and talk over lunch sometime.I’m 100% serious about this.

I first proposed this in January and then again in February. I’m not surprised he hasn’t accepted my offer yet, he’s a busy man and probably doesn’t want to commit to plans that he may not be able to keep. I get this, I’m pretty busy too but I think I’d better ask again just because it’s almost the end of March and I want to get this on the schedule before the rest of the year fills up.

Dear Billy Joel,

Look I don’t want to be a pain but I’m wondering if you’ve had a chance to think about that lunch thing? You might have thought I was just giving you the Hollywood “we should do lunch sometime” routine. You know what I mean; that invite that isn’t really an invite. Well that is not what I’m doing here. I’m truly inviting you to lunch.

When you get a chance, read some of the stuff I’ve written here. You’ll notice I’ve really come around on your work but I have so many questions for you and I think every conversation goes better over lunch. Well almost every conversation, those lunches where somebody breaks up with you suck. You know what makes those worse? Taking the leftover food to go because then you get to break up twice: once in reality and a second time in your mind as you try to finish half of a sandwich between sobs.

Sorry I got off track there. The point is this: You should meet me for lunch. We’ll talk about Long Island, motorcycles and music and I’ll even pay. It can be a nice place but nothing too expensive, I don’t have a pile of money but I’m not going to make a face if you order an appetizer AND a salad. Go nuts man, just show up.

All you need to do now is to let me know when you are available. Please email me at ayearofbillyjoel@gmail.com so we can arrange this. Remember to include LUNCH PLANS in the subject line so I don’t miss it.

Sincerely,

Will

P.S. I don’t eat seafood but otherwise I have no dietary restrictions.
